The short version
Playing music in a business is not the same as listening at home. Performance rights organizations (PROs) such as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GEMA collect fees when copyrighted music is played in public. SyncPoint subscriptions and Music Packs are built so you can play our curated catalog for background use at your licensed location without needing a separate PRO license for that SyncPoint music.
What “fully cleared” means
Tracks in SyncPoint stations and Music Packs are selected and licensed for commercial background / ambient playback at the location covered by your SyncPoint purchase. Your fee to SyncPoint includes the music rights we provide for that use case.
- Streaming plans: continuous curated stations via your secure player link
- Music Packs: downloadable files for your own in-house playback system
- One physical business location per license (see Terms and Music Pack License)
What SyncPoint does not cover
- Music you play from Spotify, YouTube, personal libraries, or other services
- Live performances, DJs spinning other catalogs, or karaoke of third-party songs
- Rebroadcasting, uploading SyncPoint files to consumer streaming platforms, or reselling tracks
- Multi-location use without additional SyncPoint licenses
Why businesses get PRO invoices
PROs represent songwriters and publishers. When a venue plays covered music in public, those organizations may require a venue license — even if you already paid a consumer streaming service. SyncPoint is designed as a business music product so our catalog is cleared for the commercial use we describe, reducing that surprise.
We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. If you mix SyncPoint with other music sources, talk with your counsel or the relevant PRO about those other sources.
