Two jobs, two licenses
- The service — hymns, choir, recorded worship while people are gathered to worship. That is the exemption conversation, and congregational-lyric tools such as a CCLI Church Copyright License. A CCLI lyric license is not a recorded-music license for the café. We are not selling that layer.
- Hospitality — prelude beds, lobby welcome, café, bookstore, offices. That is publicly audible background music in a facility. Personal streaming accounts are a weak house source here for the same reason they fail in a restaurant.
Christian Copyright Solutions states the exemption does not apply outside of services. Fellowship, potlucks, church-run cafés, and weekday hospitality sit outside that narrow line as those church-licensing pages describe it. That is their language, not a SyncPoint legal opinion. Practical takeaway: do not treat "we're a church" as a blanket for every speaker on campus.
What Sacred Ambient is — and is not
Sacred Ambient is worship-appropriate background for fellowship halls, lobbies, and community spaces. It is not a worship-set replacement. It does not license congregational lyrics. It does not replace a CCS PERFORMmusic (or similar) bundle for live covers, third-party catalogs, or campus-wide PRO needs.
SyncPoint covers our catalog as commercial background / ambient playback at the licensed location. One physical location per subscription unless you add site licenses. A second campus is another location. See licensing.
How it runs on the system you already own
Most churches already have mixers, amps, and speakers. Dedicate an input and a small always-on device for ambient so weekend operators are not hunting cables.
- Open a secure player link on a tablet or mini PC in the rack
- Mute ambient instantly when the service begins — do not share one confused cable path with the livestream mix
- Keep volume under conversation and pastoral welcome
